Antarctica…

who…

We are still working on the overall specifics of the game / tournament, but this event will likely be open to everyone. However, it’s important to note that since this is such an isolated part of the world – the price tag for this event can be pretty pricey (ex. tourist Antarctica cruises can range in the $10,000 range).

what…

We are aiming to play the first organized hockey in Antarctica. We have talked to a lot of you who have played, worked, and lived in Antarctica, but we aim to do something “official” that will get the attention of international hockey organizations and possibly a Guinness World Record while we’re at it.

when…

Now that’s the question, isn’t it? We started this project around 3 years ago and found it to be not as easy as we had originally hoped. Unfortunately, one does not just jump on a plane and go to Antarctica, much less with a bunch of rink building equipment. However, with that being said – this is still our ultimate dream and will be our masterpiece once ready. We are still working hard to make it a reality. Just remember, it took Michelangelo 4 years to paint the ceiling in the Sistine Chapel… so as I see it, we still have about a year left.

where…

Antarctica is a big place… like really big. We had originally discussed going to the South Georgia Islands, but they aren’t really part of the mainland. Then, we had looked into going to non-touristic areas, but those aren’t as easy to get approval to go to.

why…

With climate change impacting the world as we know it – this event is set to bring attention to not only climate change in the fragile ecosystem of Antarctica, but world wide. Sports have some of the greatest impacts on people’s lives, and if we can show the world that we need to protect this planet through sport, then we will have obtained our greatest goal… and have done something pretty “cool” while we’re at it. “Cool” like it’s really cold, like literally -60°C … so make sure and bring your biggest and warmest jacket.
